Surveying and documenting architectural and heritage sites have always been difficult and at times unattainable. Shifts in weather patterns and increased tourism has been a big factor in deteriorating these sites, leading to a need to document and record these sites in all forms for future generations. Advancement in 3D scanning and lidar technology in the past few years has allowed detailed documentation of various heritage sites in 3D with an incredible accuracy of ~1 cm. These technologies have played a key role in preservation and historically accurate restorations of heritage sites and ancient artifacts.
